Greater Transparency in Topeka

The Kansas legislature took some needed steps to insure greater transparency in 2018 and they should be applauded. But missing is a requirement that BOTH final legislative votes AND preliminary committee votes are recorded. The current systems allows legislators to talk one way back in the district, but to work to kill bills in committee with no accountability. I will work to change House rules to correct this problem.

Legislators who serve constituents

We need legislators who actively seek to represent the special needs of their House district. This means keeping in touch with local levels of government, schools, churches, and other non-profits that represent the views and values of local citizens. I have learned in private business that good "customer" service is essential! I will continue to work hard to serve the 104th District!

Smart, Sustainable State Budgets

The state general fund (SGF) budget of the state of Kansas is now over $9.0 billion.  It has grown 26% in the last 2 years. This is not the reality for the family budgets of Kansans who are struggling to make ends meet.  The legislature did push through some tax cuts in 2022 but the real truth of the matter is that higher spending is the default agenda of the powers that be in Topeka. This must stop! We must put taxpayers first!

End Judicial overreach in Kansas

The Kansas Supreme Court are seven men and women with extraordinary power and a strong tendency to liberal judicial activism. This shows up in how they handle death penalty cases, abortion cases, and even more notably, school finance cases. I believe that the legislature should pass the Value-Them-Both amendment so that the people have the final say on abortion laws in Kansas. Important measures like abortion, school finance, and more should be up to the voters NOT the courts.
